Bio and History
Our farm has many facets of productions and sales. Let’s start with youngest and go to the oldest.
Blenheim Hill Sorghum was started in 2007. I read an article in a farm magazine and became interested in sorghum production. I called the folks who were in the article, located in Tennessee, and became enthused. My experience in raising field crops and boiling maple syrup made it an easy fit. In 2007 we produced 320 gallons of sweet sorghum, and in 2008 we produced 485 gallons. Sales and interest are picking up every day!
Forgotten Acres Farmstand was established in 1995. We grew from 5 acres to 40 acres in 11 years. In 2007 and 2008 we sold only sweet corn and few other items at our farmstand. For 2009 we are going to power up to about 15 acres in production! We have plans to put up a mini sugar house/museum/sales booth for Maple and Sorghum! The vegetable stand will have all the usual suspects (corn, melons, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, peppers, herbs, local fruits, etc.)!
Wood Homestead Maple Syrup was our first venture in 1985. We have been producing maple syrup for 23 years. Depending on the season, we produce 1200 to 1500 gallons per year. We retail out of our house and also at the Greenmarkets in Manhattan. The locations are Union Square (14th Street and Broadway) and Tucker Square (the corner of Columbus and Broadway). We have all grades of Maple Syrup, Maple Sugar Candy and Maple Cream, Sweet Sorghum and some veggies.
